Colloquium Talk - Jacqueline Calderón

Join us for the first of our LAC-focused colloquium series, featuring Jacqueline Calderón (Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí) as she explores new evidence from Mexico on the link between environmental risk factors and breast cancer. Discover how this crucial information can be used to shape public health policy and improve outcomes for affected communities.

Case studies from national observatories in Mexico reveal significant connections between air/water pollutants and public health challenges. These findings underscore the critical need for technological and environmental literacy among health specialists and the development of effective local monitoring systems. Several questions remain as to how this new evidence can be utilized for cancer prevention strategies, virtual assistance systems, risk management schemes, prediction algorithms, and policy design. This colloquium will delve into these issues, providing insights and potential solutions.

Additionally, the colloquium will outline the practical outcomes of the EAAMO Social Hackathon, an initiative aimed at developing practical tools to address these challenges. By using curated datasets and incorporating inputs from impacted communities and policymakers, the Social Hackathon seeks to bridge the research-to-practice pipeline. Winning teams will continue collaborating with policymakers to refine and implement their solutions.
